On the road again - March 2009

Friday, March 13, 2009 at 6:30 p.m., Bruce, Lindi and I hit the road in the RV for the first time in 12 months. The sound of that diesel engine was music to our ears. We spent the first night in WalMart parking lot West Plains, MO. The next morning we passed through Mississippi for the first time ever. Lindi and daddy checked out the rest stop.
Lindi road many many hours on daddy's lap. She likes him best.
We arrived in Lake Placid, FL Sunday night. Monday we had lunch with Wendy and Rick Fury, Cathy and Jack Montgomery, and Shelley and Buddy Wright. Jack and Cathy are long time friends from Kansas City and the rest are friends from Quail Run in Arizona.
Bruce was "taken" by this air boat. Do you think he can figure out how to run it?
The Gulf of Mexico was beautiful!
Lindi did not like the fact that she spent the day in the kennel while we were out enjoying the sun. That mess used to be a bear!
Rick and Wendy spent the winter in Florida.
As did Buddy and Shelley.
Have you ever seen a bigger fish sandwich? Jack was FULL after that one.
My own estates (too bad we went broke!)
I had an allergic reaction to the "no seem ems". Nothing a little prednisone wouldn't whip.
A load of grapefruit heading for the juice factory.
An orange grove at 65 mph.
A ship in the port of Savannah, GA.
Lindi enjoying a nap in the sun on daddy's lap. Yes her head is under the steering wheel and we were moving.
Almost to the campground in Savannah.
A view of River Street from the bridge in Savannah.
Waiting in line for lunch tickets at Paula Deen's The Lady and Sons restaurant.
Sweet Melissa's across the street. This one is for you dear!
Oh course, Bruce made friends with these two sisters while we were in line. I can't take him anywhere!
This is where you sign up for a seat.
Me and Paula!!
The rest are waiting in line.
Comfort food at its finest. My new favorite food is collard greens (that green stuff). Those little things on the small plate to the left are called "Hoe Cakes". YUMMY!!
My second plate full!
Bobby Deen (Paula's son) before signing all of my goods. Is he a hottie or what!! Bruce gets the old gals and I get the sweet young things. ha
Beautiful music was made in Washington Square.
City hall with its gold dome. What a lovely city.
Oops, Lindi was mad again. This time she jammed her nose through the kennel. It cut her nose and it swelled up about 2x its size. BAD GIRL
The rally began.
Its cool at night here so Lindi needed a new coat to cover her sweater.
Juliette Lowe's home (founder of Girl Scouts). Look at the lower left corner. Girl Scouts come from all over to sell cookies here.
The flowers are in full bloom here.
More scenery.
Note the cobblestone streets under the iron walkways. Years ago ships would bring in their wares. Buyers would stand on these walkways and bid on what they wanted. The stones came from ships hulls. They were used as ballast in the hulls of the ships.
Intercoastal waterway at low tide. The walkways are used to get from the house to the boat.
Drive by boulevards filled with flowers.
Uncle Bubba's Seafood (Paula Deen's brother)
Does that look good or what? Low Country boil!!
The music couldn't be beat.
Lindi enjoying her dinner. Note, Bruce has to sit with her.
Lindi visits Hilton Head Island and the Atlantic Ocean. BRRRRR
Bruce loved this old VW bus. He had one lots of years ago minue the surf board.
Seafood at its best!!
Alligators trying to grow up and be BIG!!
Yes, they are live
We have had a great time in Savannah. Tomorrow we leave for Charleston. SC here we come!
